Glinda Schafer
A longtime resident of New Orleans, multi-award-winning, representational artist Glinda Schafer has fallen in love with the beauty of the surrounding marshlands and landscapes. A love of water has always been a major source of inspiration and a recurring theme in her artwork. With it, swamps, marshes, bayous, lakes, rivers, and coastlines, Louisiana has a wealth of watery settings to explore. The marshes have a particular fascination for her with their murky water, variety of birds, beautiful grasses, and vegetation. She feels there is peacefulness and harmony with nature in the marshes unlike any other and her paintings convey that sense of peacefulness.
Schafer’s favorite painting medium has been soft pastels since she first experimented with them several years ago. Pastels are the most permanent of all mediums if they are properly framed and not exposed to bright sunlight for a prolonged period of time. There are pastels in museums painted hundreds of years ago that are still vivid with no fading or darkening due to added binders. Pastels are the perfect combination of drawing and painting. Schafer uses archival pastel papers with a sanded surface that holds the pigments in place. Her paintings are framed with archival non-reflective glass to enhance the enjoyment of the viewer.
Schafer regularly exhibits and has won many awards in juried and non-juried local and national exhibitions. She also has had four one-person exhibitions in addition to multiple solo exhibitions. She was one of the featured artists in the article “Seven Artists you need to know” in the December 2017 publication of The Past Journal magazine and is in the book “Dare to Dream” by Urania Christy Tarbet. Her paintings are in the permanent collections of the Claiborne State Office Building in Baton Rouge, LA, the Jefferson Parish Government Building in Gretna, LA, the Reagan Ranch Center Young America’s Foundation Museum in Santa Barbara, CA, and in private and corporate collections across the United States and abroad.
